Darren Williams is currently the Deputy General Manager at GRAKO LLC, one of the GCC region’s largest specialist high-access companies. The company operates contracts across many of the region’s and the world’s tallest structures, as well as high-profile client assets, venues, and facilities.
With a background spanning 24 years in the British Armed Forces, followed by more than 17 years in the working-at-height, rope access risk, operations, and facilities management sectors, Darren has held responsibilities ranging from developing working-at-height education and implementation programmes for offshore and onshore clients, to PPE and dropped-object prevention product design for UK and global manufacturers. He has also contributed to the design, manufacture, certification, and compliance of working-at-height and rope access anchorages in collaboration with some of the world’s largest architectural firms and consultancies.
Darren is a strong advocate for promoting a safety-first culture in the working-at-height sector, as well as for the continued development and recognition of IRATA as the global leader in rope access training and operations, both regionally and internationally.
He also regularly attends and contributes to industry bodies, committees, working groups, and stakeholder meetings worldwide, participating in events organised by leading international safety organisations such as IPAF, IOSH, OSHA, and MEFMA, among others.
Darren brings extensive operational management experience, supported by internationally recognised management, training, and auditing certifications and qualifications. He also serves as a regional representative of the Industrial Rope Access Trade Association (IRATA International), where he has previously held positions on the Board of Directors, and is the current Chair of the IRATA Equipment and Standards Committee.
